Forgive and Forget? / Forgive and Forgive

Forgive and Forget
I bet you have heard this countless times
Perhaps a lot of people have used the bible in reference to this statement
Many have said they can forgive but can never forget
With this notion, the forgiveness we give may not be forgiveness but rather a ‘push’ away from reality
Is it possible to forget after forgiving?
Just as many make reference to the scriptures on this phrase, the bible never mentioned ‘forgive and forget’
Rather, the scriptures emphasize on forgiveness
The word of God encourages us to forgive each other just as God forgave us
Each letter or scroll talking about forgiveness never mentioned ‘forgetting’
We are humans and forgetting definitely will be a struggle, to others, it might never happen
Anytime we see the individual who caused the pain, hurt or did us wrong, we will definitely remember
If we don’t get consumed by anger and pain and take action, we might just leave with the thought of being free from the pain which we know isn’t true
It is of no mistake the scriptures mentioned forgiveness
Forgiveness meaning the pain will come, the hurt will show itself
But we have a choice either to be consumed or rather choose not to dwell on the hurt or let them control our actions
To forgive is to keep letting go and consistently forgiving until there is no hurt and anger towards the other
Forgiveness is never a one-day event rather it is a process
It takes time, it can take one, a month, another, a year and another, years
Forgiveness is a process that's starts with your decision to 'let go' and heal
It becomes worth it, fast and healing when you allow the Holy Spirit help you
Forgiving is not about condoning the wrong or pretending it never happened.
It's about releasing ourselves from the prison of holding grudges, pain, hurt, trauma and even having evil thoughts
When we forgive, we allow healing to begin, not only for the person we forgive but for ourselves.
But forgetting, as in erasing the memory, may not always be possible or even necessary
Remembering can serve as a learning tool to help us set healthy boundaries and prevent future harm
The deeper call is not to "forgive and forget," but to "forgive and forgive again"
This continual act of grace is what leads to true freedom
Forgiveness is less about the offender and more about the one who forgives
It is about freeing ourselves from the chains of anger, bitterness, and hurt, and walking in the peace that comes with releasing those burdens to God
It is never easy but it is possible
The Holy Spirit helps
Forgive and Forgive don’t think of forgetting else you will get trapped and stranded
